Batidos (Cuban Milkshakes)

Base Recipe: (before adding any fruit)

-Directions at the end- 

1 cup milk

2 tbsp sweetened condensed milk

1 to 2 tbsp sugar or honey (taste as you add it-some fruits are sweeter than others)

A pinch of salt (about 1/16 tsp or less)

2/3 cup crushed ice

¼ tsp vanilla (optional)


Batido de Mango:

(Mango Milkshake)

1 large ripe mango (cut in cubes)


Batido de Piña:

(Pineapple Milkshake)

1 cup fresh cut pineapple (not from the can)


Batido de Fruta Bomba :

(Papaya Milkshake)

1 cup or ½ medium ripe papaya (peeled, seeded and cubed)


Batido de Mamey:

(Mamey  -red-Sapote Milkshake)

1 cup or 1 medium ripe Mamey (Do not peel. Cut it in half, remove and discard the seed and scoop out the pulp with a spoon)


Batido de Plátano:

(Banana Milkshake) 

1 ½ ripe banana


Batido de Guanábana: 

(Soursop Milkshake)

2/3 cup guanábana pulp (Do not peel guanábana. Cut it in half, remove the seeds and with a spoon, scoop out the pulp)



In a blender, pour all the above base ingredients plus the appropriate amount of the fruit that you wish to use. Puree until smooth. Add crushed ice and continue blending until slushy, and the shake has a thick and smooth consistency. Serve immediately.
