Natilla (Vanilla Custard)


2 cups of whole milk

8 egg yolks

4 tsp corn starch

1 cinnamon stick

2 tsp vanilla

1 ½ cup sugar         

1 tsp grated lemon rind

¼ cup water

¼ tsp salt

Cinnamon powder for garnish


Add milk to a pan and bring to a boil with cinnamon stick, lemon peel and salt.  Remove from heat and let it cool at room temperature.  Using a mixing bowl, beat the egg yolks, add sugar and mix together. On a separate cup, add water and dissolve corn starch. Add all ingredients together (except vanilla) and mix them well. Bring mixture to a medium heat and cook until it turns creamy or it thickens.  Once it is done, add the vanilla. Can be served on small dessert dishes. Garnish by sprinkling powder cinnamon on top.
